A Rabbit Down A Hole

The Sunday Age

Sunday July 9, 2000

There have been many attempts to improve on it, but the standard corkscrew design - a metal worm that hooks the cork, attached to a handle to tug on - hasn't changed all that much in 300 years. The latest assault on its supremacy comes from the humble rabbit. The Rabbit clamps onto the neck of a wine bottle to insert the worm directly into the centre of the cork and then, with a gentle pull of the lever, pops the cork almost instantly. The ergonomically correct device works only if the worm is inserted properly, which means it never mangles or breaks a cork, and works equally well on plastic and rubber. The Rabbit is available online at www.sherry-lehman.com for US$69.95.
